While this may be very negligible for those who are using the smartphone’s camera only for regular photography, for professional users, this difference may mean a lot. The OnePlus 7 Pro offers 57mm focal length instead of the 78mm, which may even be a deal breaker for some. We should point out that the company used the same marketing strategy when it was promoting the OnePlus 5 too. The issue was first spotted by Android Police and it was initially discovered by Reddit user /u/ImKuya. The report also has two pictures, among which one is taken from the 3x zoom mode and the other is taken from a telephoto lens using the portrait mode. The field of view can be seen as wider in the portrait mode than in the 3x zoom mode, even though the same telephoto lens and sensor have been used. In addition to this, the photo taken with portrait mode is produced at a resolution of 13MP, which the one was taken with 3x zoom is produced at 8MP. For a professional photographer, the difference in the numbers is big and misleading. Speaking about the report, OnePlus has said in a statement, “The OnePlus 7 Pro has 3x zoom with no digital zoom or loss of detail. The telephoto camera serves two main purposes: 3x zoom and portrait mode photography. It will switch the field of view depending on the camera mode. With 3x zoom, the telephoto camera delivers the advertised lossless 8 megapixels images. Portrait mode utilizes all 13 megapixels from the sensor in the telephoto camera.” To recall, OnePlus 7 Pro runs Android 9.0 Pie skinned with OxygenOS on top and sports a 6.67-inch curved Quad HD+ Fluid AMOLED display that has a refresh rate of 90Hz, can support HDR10+ and an A+ quality rating by DisplayMate.
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC clubbed with Adreno 640 GPU, OnePlus 7 Pro has up to 12GB of RAM. The handset has 256GB of internal storage and comes with support for UFS 3.0 storage, which promises enhanced read-write speeds. For imaging duties, OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a triple rear camera that comprises of a 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 16MP wide-angle sensor. There is a 16MP pop-up selfie camera on the device. OnePlus 7 Pro houses a 4,000mAh battery that is backed by Warp Charge 30W fast charging technology.
