In a future update of the app, WhatsApp plans to add a label indicating whether the message has been updated within the chat bubble. Recent advancements, as reported by WABetaInfo, indicate that a label reading “edited” will appear next to the text. After sending a message, users have 15 minutes to amend it. Don’t anticipate the functionality to appear any time soon in the stable version of WhatsApp as it is still being tested. WABetaInfo said, “The feature is still under development but thanks to the recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.22.14 update, we discovered that there is finally news about how messages are marked as edited within a conversation.” The newly added edited feature appears to be a replacement for the “delete message” feature. However, a snippet from the app has leaked some fresh details regarding the feature. This screenshot demonstrates how the label “Edited” will appear after a message has been edited. In addition, WhatsApp will offer you exactly 15 minutes to edit a message, which we can now finally confirm. If the recipient doesn’t turn on their smartphone within a specified amount of time, WhatsApp may not guarantee that your message will actually be updated, as happens with deleted messages for everyone (probably, a day or a little more). Since the new feature is still in development, nobody—not even WhatsApp beta testers—will be able to use it just yet. The feature may be released to beta testers as we go nearer to the actual launch.
