Principal Engineer and the Engineering Lead of Google Duo, Justin Uberti in a tweet revealed that the number of people in Google Duo’s video calling has been increased from four to eight members. The new update of Google Duo will allow its users to add 7 more members to the group video call and they can all see and hear/talk to each other at the same time. The users can download the new update by going to the Google Play Store on Android and App Store for iOS. Yes,the feature is now available on both Android and iOS devices. When it started, Google Duo only allowed one person to call on its video chat. But Google released a new update last month which allowed the users to make group video calls and add three people to their video call. As mentioned above, the group video calling feature of Google Duo was earlier made available to Indonesia. This was later rolled out to other countries including India.

And now with Google Duo supporting eight people on a group chat it has leaped ahead of its competition. The instant messaging platform, WhatsApp too has a video calling feature and it allows a maximum of four members to video chat simultaneously with each other in a single video call. And seeing the usage and user base of WhatsApp, it was an extremely useful feature to connect with friends and family together by adding three people to a video call. But now that Google Duo gives the user to add up to seven people in a single video call it has gotten ahead of its competition. Although, Google Duo now supports group calling, it still is behind WhatsApp in terms of user base. Over that, it is behind Google’s own Hangouts in terms of number of people who can be invited to a video call. Google Hangouts allows up to 25 people to be connected with a video call simultaneously.
