You can keep track of your Christmas shipments with the aid of new package tracking features in Gmail. The Search giant via blog post said, “You spend hours shopping for the perfect gift, find a great deal and place the order. And as you wait for your package to arrive, you end up repeating the same steps: searching your inbox for the confirmation email, finding the tracking number and following a string of links to see your delivery status. With the holiday season coming up fast, it won’t be long before your inbox is filled with more order and shipping confirmations, tracking numbers and even the occasional delay notification. So this year, Gmail is introducing new features to help you save time and stay on top of all your shipments.”

Gmail will soon display a straightforward, effective view of your shipment tracking and delivery details directly in your inbox. In the case of orders with tracking numbers, Gmail will prominently show your current delivery status in the list view of your inbox as well as in a summary card at the top of each individual email. Most significant U.S. shipping companies will offer package tracking, which will give key information at a glance including the expected arrival date and status, such as “Label created,” “Arriving tomorrow,” or “Delivered today.” Right from your inbox or in your Gmail settings, you may choose to receive updates on the status of your packages. The order statuses will then be automatically retrieved by Gmail using your tracking numbers and shown in your inbox. By changing your Gmail settings, you can withdraw at any time. Gmail will help lessen some of that surprise in the upcoming months. The email will be moved to the top of your inbox and proactively marked as delayed so you won’t miss a beat (or a package).
