In June this year, the company stopped accepting new vaping apps and it never permitted the sale of e-cigarette refills or vaping cartridges directly on its platform via the app. But many of them allow the users to control the temperature as well as lightening and heating of vape pens, also these apps provided news related to vaping, vaping related social networks and games. Apple in a statement to a news platform Verge said, “We have updated our App Store Review Guidelines to reflect that apps encouraging or facilitating the use of these products are not permitted. As of today, these apps are no longer available to download.” In their statement to another publisher, Axios, Apple said, “We take great care to curate the App Store as a trusted place for customers, particularly youth, to download apps. We’re constantly evaluating apps, and consulting the latest evidence, to determine risks to users’ health and well-being.” As per the company, they have updated the Guidelines of App Store Review to give a message to the apps that promoting and facilitating the use of e-cigarette or vaping devices are not permitted. Also, these apps are no longer available on the App Store for download. This big move also helps the company to decrease youth exposure to e-cigarette marketing as well as it will also discourage them from using these products. According to CDC vaping has attributed at least 42 deaths and more than 2,000 lung-related diseases around the US.
